I’m Tony Gálvez. Born in Spain, I live half way between São Paulo (Brazil) and María de Huerva (a little village near Zaragoza, Spain). I am a professional lexicographer (I write bilingual dictionaries). But the world crises has taken its toll on the publishing houses and the constant stream of dictionary work common in the past is all but a memory. So while I still work on dictionaries when a publisher requires my services, I devote now most of my time to travel and photography.
——— Travel
An avid traveller, I’m a professional blogger, author and editor of eleven travel sites:
- the Brazil Travel Blog, in English, with travel information on Brazil. De viaje a Brasil is its Spanish-language counterpart.
- D Airfare, in English, helping travelers find the best ticket to fly to Brazil or within the country. D Vuelos is the Spanish-language version of the site.
- Accommodation in Brazil, in English, with full accommodation listings for the most important destinations in Brazil. Alojamiento en Brasil is the Spanish-language version of the site and Hospedagem no Brasil the Portuguese-language version.
- World Cup Brazil 2014, in English, on anything related to the forthcoming FIFA World Cup 2014 to be held in Brazil. Mundial de Brasil 2014 is the Spanish-language version of the site.
- Blog de São Paulo, in Spanish, the metroblog on the largest Brazilian city.
- De viaje a la Patagonia, in Spanish, with details of two fascinating trips to the Patagonia in Argentina.
Call me resourceful if you like.
——— Photography
I could bore you with a list of the equipment I use (I am a Canon user, by the way) but I’ve always believed that the equipment is immaterial when compared to what it really matters to me: the photos. My photography teacher took the most outstanding shots with the aid of a humble point-and-shoot film camera. I learned the lesson well. Though I like to know what is going on in terms of new models and technical developments, I never judge a photographer by its camera. It’s the photos I’m interested in.
