A drive around the Matarraña region of Spain

Photos taken during a break at the beautiful Matarraña region in the province of Teruel, Spain. It’s just a couple of hour’s drive from my hometown of Zaragoza and a definite must for anyone after an escapade on off-the-beaten-track Spain. All the photographs are geolocated; if you go to Flickr you will be able to see the specific location where each shot was taken.

Southern right whale

A Southern right whale (Eubalena australis) seen at the Valdés Península on a sunset sail.

This was a very charming whale that kept showing her tail to us repeatedly while the sun came down. It wasn’t a quick up-and-down moment; rather, she would stay the way it appears on the photo for three or four seconds and then sink down slowly. I don’t know how I managed to hold my camera steady, as the emotion of the moment was unbearable.

This is a a black & white rendition of a colour photograph of the same scene.
