Flickr photographers: Marius Vasiliu, Romania

This is the first of a series of posts introducing you to some of the most outstanding photographers among my Flickr contacts (I introduced the series at Flickr photographers & friends: a new series).

Marius Vasiliu, from Gura Humorului in Romania, is a source of endless joy who provides precisely what makes Flickr so special to me. On the one hand, he gives his viewers the chance to discover a Romania many had never dreamed of – although his work is not restricted to Romania. On the other hand, his mastery of composition, light and technique is a reference for anyone with a passion for photography and embarked on a permanent learning process.

Check his brilliant photostream. Below you will find a small selection of shots to open your appetite for his work. They are reproduced with the kind permission of his author. Click on the photos to go to their original Flickr page. Small selections always run the risk of misrepresenting the work of the photographer so make sure you find the time to explore Marius photostream in detail, as there are many more extraordinary captures there.

Flickr photographers & friends: a new series

Some would say enthusiasm for Flickr is on a steady decline. It might be so. Social networks, our own personal projects, work, are taking up so much time very little is left for Flickr. But the magic of two things Flickr always gave me is still there:

  • the chance to see the world through the eyes of my contacts.
  • the opportunity to become a better photographer learning through the outstanding work of my friends.

I would like to share some of that magic through a series of entries introducing you to the work of some of the most talented Flickr contacts and friends of mine. I keep a short list of contacts as I make it a point to visit their photostreams on a regular basis, and that takes an awful lot of time.
